Effluent Treatment Plants (ETP)

Start with the process behind the effluent.

Two factories can produce very different wastewater. The production process, cleaning cycles and discharge pattern must inform the treatment basis.

Project vision

Industrial effluent carries whatever the process leaves behind: oil and grease from food units, dyes from textile houses, solvents and salts from chemical plants, and high organic loads from dairies and pharma. It cannot go straight to a drain or river. An effluent treatment plant removes these pollutants step by step, using physical, chemical, biological and, where needed, membrane processes.

No two ETPs are the same. We start with an analysis of your effluent and its flow pattern, then size each stage to suit. The plant can be built to meet your discharge consent, or taken further so treated water returns to your process. Zeal covers design, supply, installation, commissioning, automation and operation and maintenance under one contract.

Typical business & operational challenges

A typical operational situation

Changing chemistry, batch discharges and uneven pollutant loads make a single generic design unreliable.

Our solution

Effluent Treatment Plants (ETP) is considered around the actual duty, available inputs and operating arrangement. The scope starts with effluent characterisation. It also considers load balancing. It also considers process-specific treatment. It also considers sludge management.

Our approach

  1. Review production and cleaning streams

  2. Sample representative operating cycles

  3. Evaluate physical, chemical and biological stages as applicable

  4. Agree verification and operating routines

Features & deliverables

  • Effluent characterisation
  • Load balancing
  • Process-specific treatment
  • Sludge management

Selection and inclusion are confirmed through the approved proposal and design.

Expected operational benefits

A clearer basis for effluent characterisation and sludge management, supported by an operating approach suited to the application. Actual performance depends on the final design, conditions and operation.

Technology options & engineering basis

Evaluate physical, chemical and biological stages as applicable. Equipment, interfaces and operating requirements are selected after the input review.

Information to bring to the discussion

Source or process analysis, flow and load variation, target quality, space, utilities and operating constraints.

How it works, stage by stage

  1. Collection & storage

Effluent from different sections is collected and held so flow and strength stay steady.

  2. Mixing & cooling

Streams are blended and hot effluent is cooled so later stages work as designed.

  3. Neutralisation

Acid or alkali is dosed to bring pH into the range the treatment needs.

  4. Chemical coagulation

Coagulants and flocculants gather fine particles and some dissolved pollutants into settleable flocs.

  5. Biological oxidation

Aerated tanks let bacteria break down the organic load that raises BOD and COD.

  6. Sedimentation

Solids settle and are separated as sludge, which goes to a thickener for dewatering.

  7. Filtration

Filters polish the clear water before discharge, reuse or further treatment.

Options

  • Physico-chemical ETP

Neutralisation, coagulation and settling for effluents with metals, colour or suspended solids but little organic load.

  • Biological ETP

Physico-chemical stages followed by aeration, for effluents high in BOD and COD such as food, dairy and pharma.

  • Compact ETP

A packaged plant for smaller flows or tight sites, with stages combined into a smaller footprint.

  • ETP with recycling

Adds ultrafiltration and further polishing after treatment so a large share of the water returns to your process.

Where it is used

  • Food processing
  • Pharmaceuticals
  • Dairy
  • Textiles & dyeing
  • Chemicals
  • Paint units
  • Paper & pulp

Questions before the next step

Is one design suitable for every industry?

No. Effluent chemistry, variability and the required outlet quality determine the treatment approach.

What is needed for an enquiry?

Effluent characterisation, application details, available records, site constraints and the required delivery scope.

What do you need from us to design an ETP?

Your daily effluent volume, a sample or recent lab report, details of the processes that produce it, and the discharge or reuse standard in your consent. We visit the site to check space and levels.

Can our existing ETP be upgraded?

Often, yes. We audit the plant, find the stages that are overloaded or not working, and propose changes before adding new equipment.

Do you run the plant after commissioning?

Yes. We offer operation and maintenance and AMC contracts that cover operators, preventive maintenance, chemicals and compliance records.
